## What we know

Named for Charles E. Kuhn, who took up a ranch in 1874 (obituary, 1909); 'On East Bijou Creek' (Crofutt 1881); in 1885 Kuhn and partners had 5,000 acres under fence and controlled 50,000 of public land. The X K ranch went to the Bijou Ranch Co. in 1900, and its 35,000 deeded acres to a Kansas City syndicate in 1906 for farms; steam plows by 1909. PO 1879-1920, mail to Simla.

SW1/4 of Sec. 8, T9S R60W, from Chas. E. Kuhn's post office site report of April 2, 1879, on East Bijou Creek, on the Monument-River Bend mail route (NARA M1126, S-0113), via the BLM PLSS survey grid. Good to about a quarter mile. GNIS's point is 0.8 mile east-northeast. Place Names of Colorado: Sec. 8, T9S R60W, '18 mi W of River Bend'; a post route 'From River Bend to Kuhn's Crossing' was set up in 1879.
